-
Import or register the license key
- For node-locked licenses: enter the license key or import the license file into the License Manager.

- Confirm successful activation in the License Manager and launch EPLAN Electric P8 to verify functionality.
-
Post-activation
- Record license details (serial, bound device, expiration).
- For network licenses, verify concurrent user limits and ensure license server service is running and accessible.
- For cloud setups, confirm user access roles and group assignments.
Part 4: Installing License Key via License File (No Dongle / Modern Activation)
For most new installations of EPLAN Electric P8 2022, 2023, and 2024, you will not use a physical dongle. Instead, you will receive a license file from your distributor or EPLAN Portal. eplan electric p8 license key install
Validation Step 3: Check the System Tray Icon
- The green key icon (CodeMeter) or dongle icon (WibuKey) in your Windows taskbar indicates active license daemons.
Before You Begin
- Close EPLAN completely.
- Disable antivirus temporarily (some security software may block the license manager).
- Have your license file (
.LIF) or USB dongle ready.
- Know your license number (e.g., 12345).
Scenario 1: Installing a Local License (USB Dongle)
This is the most common method for standalone workstations using a physical hardware key.
Step 1: Connect the Dongle
Plug your Codemeter USB dongle into an available USB port on your computer. Windows should recognize the device. If the drivers do not install automatically, they are located in the EPLAN installation directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin).
Step 2: Open CodeMeter Control Center
- Navigate to your Windows Start Menu.
- Find the folder named CodeMeter (or EPLAN).
- Open the application CodeMeter Control Center.
Step 3: Import the License (If not pre-loaded)
If your dongle light is blinking red or the license is not yet active:
- In CodeMeter Control Center, click on the "File" menu at the top left.
- Select "Import Certificate".
- Browse to the location of your license file (usually sent via email as an attachment). Select the file (often ending in
.WibuCmRaU).
- Click Open. You should see a success message, and the dongle LED should turn solid green (or stop blinking rapidly).
Step 4: Verify in EPLAN
- Open EPLAN Electric P8.
- Go to the Help menu (or "Project" menu in older versions).
- Select License Management (or "License Manager").
- You should see your Product Name listed with a green checkmark or a status indicating "Available."
Step 4.1: Obtain Your License File
- After purchasing, you supply your Hardware Fingerprint (generated via CodeMeter Control Center → License → “Create License Request”).
- EPLAN sends you a
.V2C or .WibuCmLIF file. Save it to your desktop.
