Hollow Knight community, refers to a significant legacy version of the game. For a long period, this was the final version for consoles and the standard for many modders and speedrunners before the release of the 1.5 update. Why v1.4.3.2 Matters Speedrunning
: Speedrunners often distinguish between "unrestricted" patches (like 1.2.2.1) and "current patch" categories, where serves as the baseline for modern competitive play. Modding Compatibility
: Many popular mods and the Modding API were originally built for 1.4.3.2. When the 1.5 update released, players frequently used Steam's "beta" branches to back to 1.4.3.2 to keep their mods working. Console Baseline
: Until the early 2026 updates, almost all console players were effectively locked to version 1.4.3.2, meaning certain bugs—like the Watcher Knight's missing backroll attack
—were unique to their experience compared to PC players on 1.5. Notable Features and Glitches
: This tech is still viable on 1.4.3.2 but generally more difficult than on older patches. Inventory Storage hollow knight v1432

Released in late 2018 alongside the Voidheart Edition, Hollow Knight version 1.4.3.2 focused on balancing the Godmaster content, including nerfs to Markoth and the final boss, while fixing critical bugs. The update remains popular in the speedrunning community for its specific, stable mechanics and is still accessible via the Steam beta branch for modding and 32-bit compatibility. The most tantalizing addition in v1432 is an unfinished area in the bottom of the Abyss. While the final game shows a dry, cracked floor leading to the Void, v1432 contains a horizontal shaft labeled internally as waterways_abyss_pre. Here, instead of Void tendrils, the floor is flooded with a toxic cyan liquid (later repurposed for the Fungal Wastes) and features a scrapped enemy: the Stilt-walker Lurker.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Prior to v1432, the Dream Nail (used to read minds or enter dream bosses) had zero i-frames. If you used it next to an enemy, you got hit.
Patch 1.4.3.2 added full invincibility during the Dream Nail’s animation.
Why? Team Cherry realized that players were using the fragile Dream Shield charm to block projectiles while channeling. Instead of fixing the charm, they rewrote the rules of reality. Suddenly, you could Dream Nail the Hollow Knight himself mid-lunge. This led to the "Dream Whip" strategy: using the Dream Nail to generate soul while invincible, then spamming spells. It broke several boss loops.
For those who successfully run v1432, they describe it as Hollow Knight with a mean streak. The "Soul" mechanic does not exist. Instead, the game uses a "Rage" meter. You build Rage by taking damage, not by hitting enemies. Consequently, healing is rare. The only way to heal is to find a bench or use a consumable "Lifeseed" item (removed from the final game). Furthermore, the Knight controls differently. There is no pogo-bounce (downward slash momentum). You can slash down, but you will simply hit the spike and fall to your death. This single change makes the Crystal Peak platforming section in v1432 one of the hardest challenges in metroidvania history.
