Quick Fix Guide
Step-by-Step Solutions
Start with the quickest fix and work your way down. In most cases, Step 1 will solve the problem.
Fix #3: Disable All Mods (The Nuclear Mod Option)
If you use mods, 90% of the time, the localization dx11txt missing error is a mod calling a file that doesn't exist.
- Go to your Total War game on Steam.
- Click Workshop > Your files > Subscribed items.
- Unsubscribe from all mods. Do not just disable them; unsubscribe.
- Manually delete the
mods folder inside your Total War directory.
- Delete the
launcher cache folder: C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\[Game Name]\
- Verify game files (Fix #1) again.
- Launch the vanilla game. If it works, re-subscribe to mods one by one to find the culprit.
Pro Tip: Text-altering mods (like "Better Camera Mod" or "Secessionist Leader Names") are the most common triggers for the hot localization error.
5. Complete Reset (Last Resort)
- Uninstall game.
- Delete remaining folders:
Steam\steamapps\common\[Game Name]
%appdata%\The Creative Assembly\[Game Name]
- Reinstall.
3. Disable All Mods
- Go to the game’s Steam Workshop → Unsubscribe from all mods.
- Or manually move mod
.pack files out of the data folder.
- Some mods break after game updates, corrupting the localization index.
