Safety Profile and PPE Requirements

While Opticide-FC is "green" in its breakdown products, the concentrate is a strong oxidizer and irritant. Opticide-FC — Product Post Opticide-FC is an advanced

  • Eye Contact: Causes severe corneal burns. Requires PPE: Chemical splash goggles (not just safety glasses).
  • Skin Contact: Prolonged exposure causes whitening (oxidative burn) and irritation. Required: Nitrile gloves (latex and vinyl degrade rapidly against peroxides). Glove thickness: 8 mil or greater.
  • Inhalation: Misting can cause respiratory tract irritation. Use in ventilated areas or with a NIOSH-approved N95 mask if fogging.
  • Storage: Store in original HDPE containers away from heat (below 30°C/86°F). Keep away from organic materials, acids, or reducing agents—incompatible with formalin and quaternary ammonia.
  • First Aid: If splashed, rinse with water for 15 minutes. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting (oxygen gas expansion can cause gastric rupture); drink water and seek medical attention.

1. Material Compatibility

This is the biggest selling point. Older glutaraldehyde solutions were known to be harsh. They could cause instruments to rust, rubber handles to crack, and lens coatings to fog. Opticide-FC is formulated to be gentle on equipment. It won't corrode aluminum, brass, or stainless steel, nor will it damage plastics or elastomers. For a clinic with thousands of dollars invested in fiber-optic handpieces or endoscopic cameras, this compatibility saves money on equipment replacement.
