Title: The Digital Resurrection of the Script: A Study on the Availability and Utility of Ottoman Turkish Books (Osmanlıca Kitap) in PDF Format
Abstract This paper explores the transition of Ottoman Turkish (Osmanlıca) literary and historical works from physical manuscripts and printed volumes to digital PDF formats. As the Ottoman script—a Perso-Arabic variant—was replaced by the Latin alphabet in 1928, accessibility to primary sources became a significant barrier for modern researchers. The proliferation of "Osmanlıca Kitap PDF" archives has democratized access to this heritage. This study examines the primary platforms hosting these resources, the advantages of digital formats for philological study, and the ongoing challenges regarding optical character recognition (OCR) and cataloging.
