The turning point comes when Batiatus finally "finds" Sura, but she is delivered to Spartacus mortally wounded, dying in his arms. Spartacus later discovers that Batiatus orchestrated her murder to keep him motivated and bound to the ludus.
Fuelled by this ultimate betrayal, Spartacus unites with his rival Crixus and the other gladiators. The season concludes with a violent and spectacular revolt at the House of Batiatus, where the slaves rise up, kill their masters, and escape into the countryside to begin a war against the Roman Republic.
