White Paper: The RDWorks Laser Plugin for CorelDRAW
An Analysis of Workflow Integration, Architecture, and Industrial Application in Laser Engraving
Date: October 26, 2023 Subject: Laser Control Software Ecosystems Focus: RDWorksV8 / RDWorksV9 for CorelDRAW rdworks coreldraw plugin
Step 3: Run Installer as Administrator
Right-click RDWorks_Plugin_Corel_Setup.exe → Run as Administrator. White Paper: The RDWorks Laser Plugin for CorelDRAW
Step 4: Point to the Correct CorelDRAW Folder
The installer will ask for your CorelDRAW path. Default is:
C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2024\Programs64\
Ensure you select the folder containing CorelDRW.exe. Standard Print: You print to a physical printer (paper)
4. Workflow: From CorelDRAW to Laser Cut
How it Differs from Standard Printing
- Standard Print: You print to a physical printer (paper). You lose vector data.
- RDWorks Plugin: You "print" to the Ruida controller. It preserves vector layers, interprets RGB colors as cutting/engraving parameters, and sends G-code directly to the laser.
Key Capabilities
- One-click export from CorelDRAW to RDWorks (.rd or .rdxml) preserving layers, colors, stroke/fill info, and object order.
- Auto-detect material & sheet size from a user profile (or prompt) and scale/fit artwork accordingly.
- Automatic nesting with options:
- Rectangular grid, Guillotine, and True-shape (heuristic) nesting.
- Spacing control (gap between parts), rotation (0°/90°/45°/free), and grain alignment toggle.
- Priority nesting for grouped/high-value parts (user-set).
- Cut-path optimization:
- Merge overlapping/duplicated paths.
- Convert compound paths to single-pass cut-order.
- Smart lead-ins/lead-outs for vector cuts with adjustable length/angle.
- Tab placement options (automatic at specified intervals or manual).
- Piercing order optimization to minimize air moves and lead-ins.
- Kerf compensation:
- Per-material kerf database with user-adjustable kerf values.
- Automatic offsetting of vector paths (inside/outside/center) and preview.
- Tool/operation mapping:
- Map CorelDRAW object attributes (color, layer, stroke weight) to RDWorks operations (cut/engrave/score, power, speed, passes).
- Save and load operation presets.
- Simulation & Reporting:
- 2D preview of final layout and cut order with estimated run time, material usage %, and number of sheets required.
- Exportable cut report (CSV/PDF) listing parts, quantities, runtime, material, and settings.
- Batch processing:
- Process multiple Corel files or multiple pages/artboards in one job.
- Undo/History & Safe-checks:
- Preview safety checks for unclosed paths, tiny segments, or stray nodes with auto-fix suggestions.
- Integration & UX:
- CorelDRAW docker/panel with job settings, presets, and preview.
- RDWorks job file generation and optional direct send to RDWorks (if RDWorks API or watched folder is available).
- Keyboard shortcuts for common actions and progress notifications.
Issue 4: RGB Colors Not Matching Laser Actions
- Cause: The plugin uses exact RGB values. "Dark red" (150,0,0) is not "Red" (255,0,0).
- Fix: Use CorelDRAW’s default color palette. For custom colors, copy the exact RGB hex code (e.g.,
#FF0000).
1. Overview
The RDWorks plugin integrates laser job preparation and output into CorelDRAW. Instead of exporting to RDWorks separately, you can define layers, set power/speed, and engrave/cut directly.
Supported CorelDRAW versions: X6, X7, X8, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 (32-bit & 64-bit depending on plugin version).
Supported controllers: Ruida RDC6442G/S, RDC6445G, RDC6334M, RDC5131, etc.
